Through therapy and/or mental health treatment, systems may discover that they experienced horrific abuse by the hands of people they trusted, but may not have the resources or language to talk about this. I discussed some basic questions with a system who experienced this kind of abuse, and I wanted to compile them into a blog post for others to look at and discuss with loved ones if need be.
What is RAMCOA/RA?
RAMCOA is an acronym that stands for "Ritual Abuse, Mind Control and Organized Abuse". It is the umbrella term for this type of abuse, and refers to any organized abuse such as cults or trafficking. RA stands for "Ritual Abuse", which is abuse that is done in a ritualistic manner. Ritual abuse isn't inherently religious in nature, but most of the time it can be in part due to religion.
What is programming and how does it affect a system?
Programming occurs in two parts:
- In the first part, the victim is abused to the point of forming DID. This is to control and further abuse the victim.
- The second part forces alters to split through more abuse to elicit a wanted response, such as programming an alter to hurt the body or themselves if they speak up about the abuse.
Programming affects the system on a fundamental level, and often affects the inner world of the system. An alter that may be programmed to 'disappear' will often have a place or layer in the inner world that they go to in order to isolate.
Do you have advice for other systems?
If you think you may have been programmed, please do NOT look into it without a medical professional as it can be extremely dangerous to do so. We want you to know that you're not alone; you have survived something horrible, and you're going to lead a life that YOU want to live. You are loved and appreciated.
